God has given his Holy Spirit to his people for their guidance, help, and comfort. The Holy Spirit is therefore a gift God has given to all his children. The Holy Spirit is the talent described in Matthew 25:14-30, given in different measures to each of God’s servants so that they may profit through it’s use. Some grow and multiply in the Spirit, finding great treasure and stores of wealth both physical and spiritual as they grow in the fruit and gifts of his Spirit, others choose to hide the Spirit. Fearful of standing out from the crowd and worried about what others may think, they reason their way out of walking in God’s power. Commissioned to an impossible work, they strive to accomplish it in their own power. This obvious juxtaposition is why Jesus instructed his disciples to wait until they received his Spirit. (Luke 24:49) To do the work of God without God is tantamount to marching into the fiery furnace without the miracle that kept the Hebrew boys alive – certain death.
It is the Holy Spirit which instructs, covers, and equips you. It has always been the Holy Spirit which prompted the bravery of the Hebrew boys, the prayer of Daniel, the ingenuity of Gideon, and the methodology of Samson. It was not rebellion which caused them to stand, pray, war, or fight – It was the Holy Spirit. God’s Spirit showed them the path, and then kept them safe upon it. Remember Gehazi (2 Kings 5) who ran after Haaman and requested gifts which were not his to take. Elisha did not receive the gifts because God’s spirit instructed him not to, Gehazi’s rebellion and greed brought him a curse. Matthew 7:21-23 Those who do the will of my Father in heaven will enter the kingdom of heaven. The Holy Spirit directs in what he hears from the Father, if you respond to His voice, you will be walking in the Spirit. (John 16:13)
Yielding Prayer
Father, please pour out your Spirit on me. I am no longer satisfied living life in the flesh. Instead, I choose to yield to your promptings. I reject any fear that would keep me from following after you and choose to walk boldly after you today.
