Every life given to Jesus stands in the strength of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. Hebrews 9:11-28 records the perfect transition from the blood of goats offered in the man-made holy of holies once a year by the high priest to Jesus’s blood being shed and offered in the throne room of the most high once for all. We have received a high priest who is touched with the feeling of our infirmities and was tempted like we are, yet without sin. (Heb 4:15) It is no wonder then, that the writer of Hebrews follows up this description of Jesus with a prompting:

Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Our adoption entitles us to boldness, why then do so many Christians fear standing before God? The accuser of the brethren has convinced them of a lie. He shouts loudly, ”God is angry with you!” and “Your sin is too great!” These are obvious lies since a simple Bible study can prove them false, but Satan doesn’t stop with lies: he’ll take truth and corrupt it just a little bit. He’ll say, “God’s grace may get you to heaven, but you haven’t earned the right to get to know Him.” Do not believe Satan’s lies.

The truth is that we are God’s infant sons and daughters. Like infants, we often mess up, soiling ourselves and getting into difficult situations. God is not surprised by our messes, He expects them. This is why Christ died — God was not waiting for us to be good enough. His grace invites us to come boldly for His grace and mercy because He knows we need it.

Yielding Prayer

Father, would you reveal to me the lies that Satan has convinced me to believe? (Pause here for God to reveal them) In the name of Jesus, I reject the lie that ___________. Father, would you reveal the truth that I should believe instead? (Pause for God to reveal). Father, I accept the truth that you have spoken over me. Thank you for inviting me to come boldly before you as a son/daughter. I commit to seeking your presence and not letting anything else stop me from coming to you.
